Five Business Days: Start Dates and Holidays
To find the date five business days later, choose “Add / subtract business days” in Business Days Calculator. The start date is day 0, and counting begins with the next business day. Start with an example where only Saturday and Sunday are days off. A contract or recipient’s deadline rules take precedence over this example.
Find five business days after a Friday
Use Friday, September 4, 2026 as a fictional receipt date. Choose “Add / subtract business days”, enter 2026-09-04 as the start date and 5 business days, then select “Add”. Keep the default Saturday and Sunday selections under “Weekly days off” and leave “Additional holidays” empty. The result is Friday, September 11, 2026.

With the same holiday settings, set the start date to 2026-09-11 and choose “Subtract”. Five business days earlier is Friday, September 4. Neither direction counts the start date. Entering 0 returns the start date unchanged, even on a day off.
A company holiday on September 9 moves day five to September 14
Reset the start date to September 4, choose “Add” and enter 2026-09-09 under “Additional holidays”. Adding five business days now gives Monday, September 14. This company closure is fictional, not a claim about an official holiday calendar.
Public holidays are not added automatically. Enter each applicable public holiday or company closure in YYYY-MM-DD format, one date per line.
If Saturday is a working day, change the weekly days off
Clear the additional holiday and uncheck Saturday, leaving only Sunday selected under “Weekly days off”. Five business days after September 4 is Thursday, September 10. Saturday, September 5 is day 1, followed by Monday, September 7 through Thursday, September 10.
Select the weekly days off that match your schedule. Selecting all seven days of the week prevents calculation. Both calculation modes use these selections and the additional holidays.
For a date range, choose whether each endpoint counts
Switch to “Business days between”, restore Saturday and Sunday as days off, and clear additional holidays. Enter 2026-09-04 and 2026-09-11. Excluding the start and including the end gives five business days. Including both gives six; excluding both gives four. An included endpoint still does not count if it is a day off.
With the start excluded and the end included, adding September 9 as a holiday reduces the same range to four business days. Extending the end to September 14 gives five. Endpoint choices apply only to date-range mode; they do not change the day-0 rule in “Add / subtract business days”.
Check calendar days and time-of-day cutoffs separately
