Convert 10 real metres to drawing centimetres at 1:100
Input and settings
Direction: real→drawing / Scale: 1:100 Real unit: m / Drawing unit: cm / Input length: 10
Expected result
Drawing length: 10 cm
Calculate real or drawing lengths from a 1:N drawing or map scale. Choose units for each length, then copy or save the calculation as TXT or JSON.
Enter scale as 1:N with N greater than zero and length nonnegative. At most 64 characters, 12 fractional digits and value 10^18 each. No exponents, commas, spaces or unit text. Write decimals as 0.5.
Convert between real and drawing lengths using a scale and an explicit unit for each side.
Example buttons replace the inputs and settings above and calculate. Restore previous input steps back one example at a time. After trying multiple examples, repeat restore to return to your original input. This history is lost when the page closes.
Direction: real→drawing / Scale: 1:100 Real unit: m / Drawing unit: cm / Input length: 10
Drawing length: 10 cm
Direction: drawing→real / Scale: 1:50 Real unit: m / Drawing unit: cm / Input length: 2.5
Real length: 1.25 m
The first example divides 10 m=1000 cm by 100 to get 10 cm. In reverse, 2.5 cm×50=125 cm=1.25 m. The input length uses the input side’s unit for the selected direction. Check the unit beside the result as well.
Scale is 1:n with positive n and non-negative length. Negative lengths and area/volume scales are unsupported. Each number allows 64 characters, 12 fractional digits and magnitude 10¹⁸. Integer/rational unit arithmetic rounds the result to 12 decimal places, with half ties away from zero. Print scaling and drawing distortion are not measured or corrected.
Verification: existing calculate checks cover both conversion directions, 10 cm and 1.25 m, and rejection of zero scale and negative length. JSON direction and units are checked against the output.
Drawing length : real length = 1:N. In the same unit, drawing length = real length / N and real length = drawing length × N. Choose the direction and units for both lengths.
At scale 1:100, a real length of 2 m is a drawing length of 2 cm. In the reverse direction, drawing length 2 cm gives real length 2 m. Different units are converted before applying the scale.
Supported units are mm, cm, m, km, inch, ft and mile. Inch, foot and mile use international definitions from the existing unit converter. Other definitions such as US survey feet are not supported.
N=1 means equal scale; N>1 means reduction; 0<N<1 means enlargement. At 1:0.5 the drawing length is twice the real length. Zero length is allowed, but N must be positive.
Input decimals are retained with integer-based arithmetic up to 12 fractional digits. The calculated length is rounded to 12 decimal places, halfway away from zero, with trailing zeros removed. Very small results may round to zero.
TXT and JSON include scale 1:N, direction, both lengths and units, calculated result and precision. Numeric values remain strings. UTF-8 files have no BOM or added trailing newline. Each report is limited to 4,000 bytes. Inputs and results are neither stored nor sent.
Changing a numeric input, unit or direction cancels work and clears old results. Direction and unit changes keep numeric inputs. Cancel keeps inputs. Reset clears numeric inputs and output, keeping direction and units.
This tool handles planar drawing/map lengths. It does not calculate area scales, geographic distance or print-size error corrections. Check that the stated scale matches the actual print or display size.
Enter 100 for N. Real length 2 m corresponds to drawing length 2 cm; select each unit separately.
Yes. Select mm, cm, m, km, inch, ft or mile. The input label follows the chosen direction and unit.
Yes. N can be greater than zero and less than one. At 1:0.5, drawing length is twice real length.
