How to read the result
MB means 1000² bytes; MiB means 1024² bytes, a difference of 48,576 bytes. The result follows the selected unit definition. This does not read a file or measure its actual size.
Scope and limits
B through TB use powers of 1000; KiB through TiB use powers of 1024. Values must be non-negative. Bits, transfer rates, compressed size and disk allocation are excluded. Fractional bytes are possible and are not automatically rounded to whole bytes. JavaScript number precision makes this unsuitable for exact byte comparisons of very large integers.
Verification: existing convertFileSize checks cover decimal and binary constants, a round trip and rejection of negative values against the unit-labelled output. No file is selected or modified.
