Fold Position Calculator
Calculate panel widths and fold positions for half, Z, and roll folds.
How to use
- Enter the flat sheet width in millimeters and choose the fold type.
- For roll folds, specify how many millimeters narrower the rightmost inner panel should be.
- Transfer fold positions to layout guides and compare them with the printer’s supplied dimensions before submission.
When to use this tool
Calculate panel widths and guide positions while drafting a folded leaflet. Half folds, equal-panel Z folds, and roll folds with a narrower inner panel use different rules.

Example input and actual output
- Flat sheet width (mm): 297
- Fold type: Roll fold
- Roll fold inner-panel reduction (mm): 3
Panel widths from left (mm): 100 / 100 / 97 Fold positions from left edge (mm): 100 / 200
For a 297mm roll fold with a 3mm reduction, panels are 100, 100, and 97mm from left to right. Fold guides are 100mm and 200mm from the left edge. The tool does not generate reverse-side imposition or bleed guides.
Scope and limitations
For roll folds, the rightmost panel is narrower than each other panel by the specified amount. Paper thickness and machine tolerances are excluded; follow your printer’s specification.

Frequently asked questions
How do Z and roll folds differ?
Z folds use three equal panels. Roll folds treat the rightmost panel as the inner one and reduce its width relative to the other two.
Are paper thickness and bleed included?
No. These are draft dimensions. Follow specifications for paper thickness, folding machinery, binding, and printer templates.
Where are the displayed fold positions measured from?
They are measured from the unfolded sheet’s left edge. A 297 mm roll fold with a 3 mm inner-panel reduction has guides at 100 mm and 200 mm.
