Example input and actual output
- Source text: Alice met Alicex.
- Words to hide (one per line): Alice
- Mask character: *
***** met *****x.
Alice becomes *****; the Alice substring in Alicex also matches, producing *****x. Matching does not require word boundaries. Longer overlapping terms take priority, and replacement text is not processed again.
Scope and limitations
Matches literal text with case sensitivity. Does not detect other personal data or guarantee anonymization.

Frequently asked questions
Does matching require a whole word?
No. Matching is literal, case-sensitive substring matching. For whole-word conditions, use Safe Replace.
Can the original term’s length be inferred?
The mask repeats once per grapheme, preserving length. This does not guarantee anonymization or prevent re-identification; review the whole document.
How are overlapping terms and replacement text handled?
Longer overlapping terms take priority. Replacement text is not searched and processed again.
