About this tool

Participants are shuffled with a cryptographic random source and distributed so team sizes differ by no more than one.

Duplicate names are treated as separate entries. The participant list is not saved.

Try a use case and check the result

Split seven members by team count and by target size, checking balance and that every member remains present.

Example buttons replace the inputs and settings above and calculate. Restore previous input steps back one example at a time. After trying multiple examples, repeat restore to return to your original input. This history is lost when the page closes.

Split seven members into three teams

Input and settings

Members: A, B, C, D, E, F, G (one per line)
Mode: 3 teams

Expected result

Three teams with sizes 3, 2 and 2. Each member appears once; membership is not fixed.

Use a target of two members per team

Input and settings

Members: A, B, C, D, E, F, G (one per line)
Mode: target size 2

Expected result

Four teams with sizes 2, 2, 2 and 1. The target does not guarantee two members in every team.

How to read the result

Target-size mode first rounds member count÷target size up to get the team count, then distributes shuffled members in turn. Team sizes differ by at most one. Identical names remain separate entries; use identifiers such as A-1 and A-2 when they must be distinguished.

Scope and limits

Use one member per line; outer whitespace and blank lines are removed. At least one member and a positive integer amount are required, with no more teams than members. Skills, affiliations, preferences and demographic constraints are not modeled. Examples replace member input and teams. Restore returns the original members and settings, not previous assignments; generating again makes a new draw.

Verification: ceiling and round-robin allocation give hand-calculated sizes 3/2/2 and 2/2/2/1. Existing functions and actual browser output are checked for the member multiset and size balance; original multiline input including duplicate names is restored.

Balanced headcounts, without skill or department rules

Seven participants A–G divided into three teams produce sizes of 3, 2 and 2. There are no skill or department fields, so those constraints are not used.

A target team size of 3 also creates three teams for seven people. Members are distributed evenly rather than placing all remaining people in one small team.

Frequently asked questions

Can seven people be split into three teams?

Yes. The team sizes will be 3, 2, and 2.

Can someone appear in two teams?

Each input line is assigned exactly once.

Are participant names saved?

No. They are neither stored nor sent anywhere.
